Coaching
Current Coaching Assignments:
Ø Coaching for the Department for Education & Skills (DfES) ‘Leadership & Management’ Programme for SEO’s to Grade 6.
The programme commences with a two day development centre in which I observe two participants.
I then complete a detailed feedback report for each of my participants on their performance against the Professional Skills for Government (PSG)
competencies. This is followed up by three x 2 hour coaching sessions which are development focused using MBTI and the DfES
bespoke 360 degree feedback, based on the PSG. I currently coach four participants, based in Central London. References can be requested.
Ø On going coaching support to the Managing Director of a multi-sited engineering company. Topics include negotiation and influencing,
managing difficult relationships, career development and HRM advice. Use a range of tmsdi instruments including TMP and QO2.
Previous Coaching Experience:
Ø Qualified Coach for the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) Leadership Excellence Action Programme – aimed at members of the Senior
Civil Service. Participants are Grade 7 & 6 with potential for SCS.
Ø Executive coach for DWP Appeals Service participants in the scheme were Senior Managers leading the transition in to their new organisation.
Ø Executive coach for the NI Housing Executive Senior Management team, providing feedback on the bespoke 360 feedback reports and their
personal development agenda, supported by a modular leadership development programme.
Ø 1:1 coaching with members of a poor performing teams within MoD. Participants included individuals from Defence Estates, both civilian and military,
and the construction partners. Using a trust based 360 feedback tool and MBTI

Ø Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development
Ø MA in HRM
Ø Licensed practitioner of the MBTI
Ø Qualified assessor for EFQM
Ø Extensive experience of Learning Styles and Belbin
Ø Accredited to Master level for TMSDI instruments
Ø Use of both qualitative and quantative 360 degree feedback, both proprietary and bespoke
Coaching approach and style: I use the following models as a basis:
Ø Kolb’s model of adult learning and often ask coaches to complete the related questionnaire developed by Honey and Mumford.
I combine this with the Learning ladder.
Ø The GROW model, developed by Sir John Whitmore and David Emery, particularly when dealing with problems / issues of a more
open-ended nature where there is no easy, immediate answer. The ‘Goal’ aspect of this involves creating a picture of a successful
future creating visual, auditory and kinaesthetic evidence based on NLP.
Ø Future mapping, which can move into a very structured action planning process in the later stages.
Ø For specific skills I will use one of the 300 ITS core models, which are regularly reviewed and updated.
